Central Valley Advocacy

High Speed Boondoggle (HSB) has been working with farmers in the Central Valley, where the first section of High Speed Rail is scheduled to begin construction in 2012, to raise public awareness about the projectís negative environmental and financial impacts. As currently planned, HSR threatens the viability of family farms by dividing valuable agricultural land, disrupting irrigations systems and encouraging urban sprawl.

In May and June 2011, HSB and Preserve our Heritage, a group comprising farmers and others in the Madera and Merced area opposed to HSR, placed nearly a dozen billboards along highways 99 and 150. These signs, shown below, are viewed by thousands of motorists each day.
